10th Grade Parents and Families of Imhotep Charter School!

Rites of Passages are crucial to the social/emotional development of our children. It encompasses culturally rooted educational and gender specific activities designed to usher the transition of our children through their adolescent years to adulthood.

Our 10th Grade Naming Ceremony is one of the rite of passage rituals that we will be conducting while your child attends Imhotep Charter School. These names are not meant to replace the names your children have. They are meant to teach a story about who they are, and the culture that we have lost during our peoples enslavement. One of the first things that Africans were made to disband as they were socialized into enslavement was their African names, thus their African identity. As a part of our re-socialization process, we will conduct this African Naming Ceremony.

It is essential that you, the parents attend this rite. Your presence will leave an indelible mark on your children. If it is absolutely not possible for you to attend, please arrange for a responsible elder family member to stand on your behalf. Again, your presence is invaluable, and will leave a lasting impression on your child and his/her development. Also, this event is considered a major grade in Rite of Passage grade, so it is imperative that all 10th grade students attend.

We look forward to seeing you at the event!
