2023-2024 Right to Know Letter
Hotep Parents & Guardians,

We are excited to partner with you during the 2023-2024 school year in your child’s learning. Imhotep Institute Charter High School receives Title I funding and therefore is subject to the regulations of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) that was signed into law by President Obama on December 10, 2015. Under the ESSA, as a parent/guardian of a student attending a Title 1 school, you have the right to know the professional
qualifications of the teachers/paraprofessionals instructing your child.

ESSA requires increased accountability for states and school districts; Grants greater choice for parents, especially those in low performing schools; and Provides greater flexibility for state and local education agencies in the use of federal funding. Under ESSA, parents have a right to request professional
qualifications of their children’s teacher(s) or paraprofessional(s). This letter is to inform you of your right
to ask for the following information about your child’s classroom teachers or paraprofessionals:

1. Whether Pennsylvania has licensed the teacher for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.

2. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which Pennsylvania licensing criteria has been waived.

3. The teacher’s baccalaureate degree major and whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and if so, the subject of the degrees.

4. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

In addition, at any time you have the right to request information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out as well as information on required assessments that include: subject matter tested, purpose of the test, source of the requirement (if applicable), amount of time it takes students to complete the test, and time and format of disseminating the results.

Our staff is committed to helping your child develop the academic knowledge and critical thinking needed to
succeed in school and beyond. That commitment includes making sure that all of our teachers and paraprofessionals meet applicable Pennsylvania state requirements.

If you would like to receive specific information about your child’s teacher or paraprofessional, please contact our Business Manager, Mama Rose M. Kioko at 215-438-4140 or via email at
[email protected]. If you would like to receive information regarding assessments, please contact me at the same number or via email at [email protected]. We are fully committed to the success of your child and appreciate your partnership.

In the spirit of umoja (unity) and ujima (collective work & responsibility),
